FATRAC Wet Weather Policy
-
The 24/48 Rule: Wait 24 hours after light rain and 48–72 hours after heavy rain before riding.
-
The Footprint Rule: If the ground is soft enough to leave a footprint, it is too wet to ride.
-
Visual Indicators: Standing water, "glistening" mud, or tacky/clumping soil are automatic "No-Go" signals.
-
Frozen/Thaw Cycle: Trails that are frozen in the morning often become unrideable "slop" by midday. Avoid riding during the thaw.
-
Puddle Etiquette: If you encounter a localized puddle on an otherwise dry trail, ride through it, not around it, to prevent trail widening.
-
Impact: Riding on wet clay creates permanent ruts that channel water, accelerate erosion, and require hundreds of volunteer hours to repair.
