Washington DC Advocacy
FATRAC went to Washington last week! Cathy & Jim from FATRAC, plus
Randy Martin attended the 9th annual National Bike Summit, joining an
estimated 550 other advocates & bike industry people for a day of
training session, and a day on the Hill. Congressman McClintock, new to
the 4th District which covers the Sierra/Cascades Highway 50 north to
the Oregon border came out to meet the FATRAC contingent and a couple of
IMBA staff and bike shop owners. We talked about the importance of
trails to the economy, as well as desire to protect lands while allowing
mountain biking. We also had a quick meeting to thank Congresswoman
Doris Matsui of Sacramento for her enormous support for Complete
Streets, making our roads safe for ALL users, not just motorists. Each
evening, we had dinners with great keynote speakers - the week was
wrapped up with a brisk ride around the Capitol under a light snowfall.
Jim & Cathy added some museum time. Keep it in mind that next year the
League of American Bicyclists will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the
National Bike Summit. You might consider going!!!
